Just to let you fine folks know that I’m hoping to upload 32 and 64 bit full versions before the end of this month (June) for testing.
It is almost certain to be a runit version for both arches.
I have actually been running an alpha version (runit) in VBox for a month or so and it seems to be holding up well.
No serious issues, but quite a few minor ones that will need fixing.

Watch this space.

Though I don’t like some decisions in the runit part of the init-diversity project, is there hope that the beta of antiX 25 will be multi-init? (I know you have said you are rocking s6 daily, and I am curious, but not enough to risk breaking my system).

Some of you here seem like you were born seven months ago. Remember, haste is the enemy of perfection.

Would it be possible to make a new compilation of all the translations that are available on Transifex in issue 25? It would be great to have a new edition with a new ISO containing all the most recent translations that are available on Transifex.

For example, we frequently correct and improve the translations of the programs so that they are fully understandable to native speakers of the target language and as close to perfection as possible. In addition to correcting some line breaks, incorrect translations of “runit-service-manage” (due to the lack of programmer comments) and because we translated everything blindly. I must not forget that several new languages ​​were translated and up to now have not been included in the “.deb” packages of the antiX programs and in the updates. It will be great for the new volunteer translators to see their work being used in the new ISO. It would be like saying “thank you very much for your volunteer work, look here at your translations in antiX 25”.

Alguns aqui parecem que nasceram de sete meses. Lembrem-se, que a pressa é inimiga da perfeição.

Na edição 25 seria possível fazer uma nova coleta de todas as traduções que estão do Transifex? Seria muito bom termos uma nova edição com uma nova ISO contendo todas as traduções mais recentes que estão disponíveis no Transifex.

Por exemplo, corrigimos e melhoramos frenquentemente as traduções dos programas para ficarem totalmente compreensíveis para os nativos do idioma de destino e o mais próximo possível da perfeição. Além de corrigirmos algumas quebras de linhas, traduções erradas do “runit-service-manage” (devido a falta dos comentários do programador) e porque traduzirmos tudo às cegas. Não posso me esquecer de que vários idiomas novos foram traduzidos e até o presente momento não entraram nos pacotes “.deb” dos programas do antiX e nas atualizações. Será muito bom para os novos tradutores voluntários verem o seu trabalho sendo utilizados na nova ISO. Será como dizer “muito obrigado por seu trabalho voluntário, olhem aqui as suas traduções no antiX 25”.

I am sure that installing s6-rc or s6-66 on your system will have a very minimal chance of breaking anything (they have zero interaction with sysvinit & runit service files – and the only “hacks” used are with the shutdown & poweroff functions which initially had some issues, but have been resolved since the 20250514 release link to init-diversity-tools scripts).

My point of view is that as long as sysvinit scripts aren’t removed there is really no reason to have seperate sysv & runit editions.
eg
runit can go under /sbin/init in all iso’s,
sysvinit can either be available through the sysvinit-init-diversity metapckage (which could be renamed to sysvinit-antix for the official release) either on iso or just through the repo.

I understand the reservations about init-diversity’s runit-service-boot-module in its current form, however I am confident that all scripts in it can be either partially or even fully swapped with ones that form the runit-core-services (with some adaptions mostly in regards to paths), if this makes everybody more comfortable.
I was going to suggest this to @anticapitalista but he seemed happy with the boot-module in its current form – I don’t know what his final plans are for runit in this release.

Apart from this, my personal view is that the framework for an official multi-init release is there, we just need to refine each init system individually with services packages & files & as soon everything is tested & makes it into the antiX repo’s I guess an official multi-init iso may come.

This is just my train of thought, @anticapitalista ‘s views may differ, & it comes without saying that we all respect his & his teams decisions.

Still a while until October, user panik will probably set in some weeks or even months later.

Pushing an updated version in a local after 10 initiative will be easier and probably reduce
need for extra support, many of the machines MS wants users to scrap are only a few years old
so maybe hardware support will be interesting.

What will the series of default kernels be? I’d guess 5.10 [EOL Dec 2026] with either 6.1 [EOL Dec 2027] or 6.6 [EOL Dec 2026].

While in Europe now for the summer time I have been running antiX runit Testing on Debian Trixie testing for some time now. Although my configuration may happen to be quite different then antiX 25 when it comes out, I am happy that I am experiencing very few issues at this point.
The issues I do have are:
– On my Thinkpad T410 laptop, which has nVidia NVS3100M chip, Google Earth althoughs runs fine, reports Mesa graphics instead of Nouveau driver. Not sure if it could be related to kernel, which is 6.12. Not a big deal as it seems to work regardless, but Bookworm reports Nouveau driver under the same condition.
– Restart function ends up shutting down the system with no restart, just as Shutdown function. Not a big deal either but not as it should.

Not asking for or expecting any help, just reporting experience.

I can’t confirm. Geany opens it for me to the selected color scheme. Checked in antiX-25.a2 (i.e. 32-bit).
