The login theme, icons, light theme, and wallpaper all suck so bad. I understand that it’s subjective but it would attract more people if it more like another normal distro. Me personally, I almost wanted to not choose antix because of how ugly it looks. Here are some default suggestions to make it look more like a normal distro (I understand that people want to make it look different due to their tastes but I think more people will prefer it if they implement these changes by default even if it is not to their preference because I would assume in most people’s opinion it would look better than what antix currently offers. They can then change it later if they want. This is just for initial attraction to the distro for people who are looking for a lightweight distro).

      * Use kora icon theme by default
      * Change the theme to blueday medium
      * Change the color to Arc-Dark
      * Change the wallpaper to something decent (preferrably an antiX wallpaper that actually looks good; the metro wallpaper is nice but its low resolution so maybe upscale that?)
      * Change the icons in the sidebar when you click the windows/meta icon to match the kora icon theme

Again, I understand that not everybody would like this. The point is to go with more of a normal/populist type look so that it appeals to more people. And by the way, this customization does not impact performance; LIKE at all I have a crappy 32 bit device and it shouldn’t change any performance except at most maybe a few megabytes to my knowledge and in my testing it doesn’t even do anything for that either.

Beauty is the eye of the beholder. antiX and Debian provide all the tools for you to customize to your preference.

You may want to look at the antiX Respins section of the forum or create your own. If you create something amazing, it may be included as part of the official and supported releases.

I do not use the default releases, myself, for a variety of reasons, so I feel that I understand where you are coming.

If people are attracted to antiX just for its looks, then it’s time for me to quit

            Hello Dracula.

            Please watch the videos:

7 – Getting to know antiX Linux 23 – Part 1 (System monitors, Conky, System Tray, Toolbar, Menu, etc.)

8 – Getting to know antiX Linux 23 – Part 2 (Main menu or first level menu, Changing the theme, Switching between desktops, IceWM, Fluxbox and JWM window managers, File managers, etc.)

49 – How to make antiX Linux look like Windows 10 – Part 1 (How to install FT10 toolbar and menu in antiX Linux?; How to have antiX Linux look like Windows 10; How to install a toolbar and menu similar to Windows 10 in antiX Linux?; antiX Linux transformation package; Tint2 and JGMenu in antiX by PPC)

Turn on subtitles, click on the gear, C/C Subtitles, Auto-translate and click on your language to activate automatic translation of subtitles. And if you don’t want to hear the TTMaker narrator’s voice in Brazilian Portuguese, just lower the volume of the YouTube video.

After you watch each of the videos and follow the explanations by reading the text in the subtitles, I ask that you return to this topic and tell me what you thought of the various customization options.

I intend to produce two more videos about the antiX customizations that can be made from the “Customize Look and Feel” (LXAppearance) menu and the “IceWM Manager” menu. I already have the recording of these videos, now I just need to produce the script text for the narrator’s voice, edit and render each of the videos. As this volunteer work requires many days and hours of work, I have to first make the videos that antiX users have indicated to me that they need help with, that is, the issues related to appearance can already be addressed with the “ft10-transformation” and “antix23-desktop-files” packages.

kora icon theme – not in Debian – Will you package it so others can use it on antiX?

I agree with anticapitalista’s comment (except for that bit about his quitting).
Like another forum member states in his signature like – “Accept antiX as it is.” (I’m probably paraphrasing, but that sums it up.)
Suggestions are fine, on things to change or adopt. But I don’t think the point is to go on the offensive to attract new users.
I personally always tweak settings, and the adventure of learning something new & making it my own is a huge part of why I like Linux in general. Everyone prefers different styles.
So make suggestions in a constructive manner, and enjoy your own antiX with as many tweaks and changes as you like. anticapitalista will do as he likes on the official distro releases (as he should). Many forum member contributions have been incorporated over the years, so you never know…

No, anticapitalista. Only superficial and materialistic people who value appearance more than lightness, speed, stability, reliability, functionality, and all the other interesting and useful things that only exist in antiX.

Video 49 about FT10 is the seventh most watched video on the YouTube channel with 1169 views as of 04/26/2025. PPC did an excellent job and offers the appearance that people want to have in antiX, in addition, you included the FT10 package in the repositories and can be installed using the program installation tools that antiX has.

Superficial and materialistic people tend to look at other people and analyze what the person has or appears to have, these people do not value who the other person is or what the person does.

                  – – – – –

                    That’s probably my signature 🥰

I’ve been in this position many times. I’ve attempted to modify the look and appearance of antiX on numerous occasions.

The first thing to consider is that you have the freedom to change almost everything in antiX. Nothing prevents you from installing any custom theme or creating your own custom theme, etc. You can even install almost any other window manager or desktop environment. Anticapitalista has made XFCE completely compatible with the antiX philosophy, making it an excellent choice.

So in every aspect, you’re free to customize antiX however you wish. However, in the end, after extensive modifications and customizations, I always returned to the default – antiX full by anticapitalista.

It was only after these experiments that I truly understood: the default antiX full by anticapitalista is a masterpiece.

I would like to add a supplementary point about the antiX appearance discussion.

Every Linux distribution has its own unique identity. antiX is a lightweight and efficient distribution designed for older systems, while simultaneously being powerful and flexible. Its default appearance is part of this distinctive identity.

Yes, it might look a bit different at first glance, but this is precisely what distinguishes antiX from other distributions. What initially might seem “unusual” becomes an advantage with more use – a simple, efficient interface without unnecessary embellishments.

Someone who’s genuinely looking for a lightweight and efficient system probably won’t dismiss it because of its initial appearance. They’re seeking performance and functionality, which antiX delivers excellently.

Ultimately, the beauty of antiX lies in its flexibility. Every user can modify it according to their preference, but it’s also important to appreciate the original design and the philosophy behind it. Sometimes, accepting something as it is leads us to a deeper understanding of its true value.

                        dracula,

Many times different people have different opinions of the same picture. Let’s see if others also like the “look” you think looks good.

Why don’t you change it so it looks “good” and post a couple screenshots of it along with copies of what you needed to change to improve the looks?

Like I said, I understand that. I just thought it would be a good idea to make it look like other distros to attract more people even just a little bit. I understand that other people may have different opinions on how they want their DE to look, but in my opinion it should look more like other distros to have a normal reaction from the user and instead not be appalled which is what I would assume a lot of people would be. Then, if they don’t like how it looks, they can change it. There’s a difference between something going from ugly to good and at least decent (for most people) to however good they want it to be. I prefer the latter is all I am trying to say.

I’m superficial and materialistic just because I want my linux distro to look good? then basically anybody who has ever wanted to change their DE is materialistic and superficial. You must be incredibly delusional no offense.
