Hello All.
New here … would like to know if I can instal antiX with XFCE and Sysvinit ?
If so how can I do it ?

@Farmer already created a respin of antiX Trixie, which is release 26, that has Xfce as the featured interface.
See if you can locate it on our forum.

I wonder if init-diversity could be added to it without breaking a bunch of stuff? Might have to give it a try.

That’s the beauty of antiX, those backups are so easy to make. I sometimes forget that users of many distros have no such option. Let us know how it goes Brian, looking forward to it!

I gave it a whirl; there are so many packages for each init that are NOT to be included that I’m going to have to go to our init-diversity release, list the packages I need and THEN try it. I’ll see if I can add at least a few of them soon.

2) I thought about it some more: it would be WAY easier to simply use our tools to add a desktop of choice to our existing release, a.k.a. if you want Xfce, go into our Software Package installer; I believe there are desktop environments available there.
After fumbling; that’s what I’d do; now I’m going to clean out all of those extra environments!

Yes, I tried it also, tried updating all packages and then installing s6-rc and s6-66, and everything broke right away. I’ll be interested in finding that step-by-step procedure.

Beware that this respin is not an official release and since the amount of people using XFCE with antiX is limited, so may be the (amount of) support on the forum.

I think that either @anticapitalista or @ProwlerGr will have to weigh in and explain how to do that if that’s truly what you want to do.
There are two straightforward ways still available in antiX 26 if you end up deciding to add Xfce to an existing antiX 26 system: the package installer has two choices for an Xfce desktop – Xfce4-lite with consolekit or Xfce4 with consolekit and lightdm. The other way to go, and it’s probably the way I would choose, is to manually select either an Xfce metapackage or choose the precise selection of Xfce packages and applications you want to use.
So if you can get the details from the developers you can still go that way; otherwise there are a few alternatives, understanding that they are not the methods you prefer to try at this time.

Hello All.
Basically, what I’m looking for is a simple way to install AntiX with the XFCE desktop environment.
Why antiX and XFCE ? Because it’s said to be very light and so very fast and it could allow me to
turn an old Laptop into a perfectly functional machine.
XFCE on the other hand is also simple, clear, light and functional and very easy to use.
I would say it would be a win / win combination that would bring to antiX many users.
