I wonder if I’d be better off her running a frugal setup that would only save persistence on shutdown when asked to? does that sound doable and reasonable? Has anyone else tried a setup like that?
Yes, and that sounds like a sound plan. I run antiX all the time that way (Meanwhile I replaced persistence by remaster, either frugal or from Live USB, using some symlinks then to make some data from the home folder kept in a dedicated partition on the internal hard drive without constantly rewriting the persistence containers.)
What are you doing and what are you saving in her /home folder, and where to?
I was thinking of maybe putting a few things in a Live-usb-storage folder, but please tell me what worked for you? I have to remember how to boot a frugal setup. That’s always been tricky.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZGTBUW3bnABut basically you can use simply a remastered (personally tailored) default LIVE USB device. I’ll explain to you all that later, e.g. what symlinks I use for what purpose. It is perfectly easy to apply then.
Windows is like a submarine. Open a window and serious problems will start.

Some time ago I had no installed system, antiX works fine that way.What you describe is a very common attack style, if the contact operative
can connect to the victim the computer is searched while constantly talking.
if the victim is easy the superviser will be involved, a person well versed
in shitting people. Some sound very convincing. Often a backdoor is installed.If I feel bored then do something silly but enjoyable like annoying scammers
and wasting their time using an older system which has no internal
drive. I enjoy it when they explode on the other end of the phone connection.LOL. Sounds like fun teasing them into thinking they will get rich quick stealing from you, only to find no pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
They get what they deserve.

All I can do is acting prudent to prevent this threat. For this it is necessary not to block out a threat from consciousness by denying it, but taking reasonable means to avoid it.
I expect that’s what anyone would suggest. Prudent and reasonable. What these actually mean in practice depends on your sense of the risk, though, which remains subjective since there doesn’t appear to be data.
In this case, for example, I wouldn’t feel that reinstalling the OS seems reasonable based on just visiting a shady website. I would say changing your Amazon password seems prudent if you tried to log in on the shady site, though.
That said, I just tried going to amazn.com out of curiosity and it only redirected to amazon.com, so I can’t find the content of this shady site to see what it might actually be.
One thing that’s really nice about a frugal system with persistence, by the way, is that you can actually view all the files that have changed since the last save, which is pretty useful for testing things like this.

victims and can afford any tech offerred in marketplaces and likely as not find, buy exploit sell
own zero day exploits.Anyone who thinks Indian, or other 2nd 3 or 4 th world IT Engineers are incapable fools is the
much bigger fool and will get bitten sooner or later. Rule 1 you have no idea what is going on
unless all connections to and from the attacking person site or group are real time monitored.Be aware ai attacks are becoming more prevalent. They can be very convincing as the fake sites only
show differences in hidden code.Back ot. BobC, you can block misspelling of amazon in both etc/hosts and using UBlock rules easily.
I was easily able to connect to amzn.com and redirected to a fake billing site.
The method my change in milliseconds!.

When I run live I use a 64 GB clone of my system, ZRAM is setup, no swap, ensure automounting is off, any saves are to the live USB data partition.
I think that is reasonably good, if the stick is possibly compromised it is overwritten. Simplest with F3 tools.
