Thank you for the tip.

If it does not help and if I am reminded once again (by girlfriend) that the Linux is not normal and things are not that easy and now it does not work [for whatever reason (not known to me yet)], I may decide to reinstall with antiX 23.2 unless antiX 25 is released in between that fateful moment.

Linux is not normal

I love that “comment” out of context: sounds like “Young Frankenstein” and when he grabbed the wrong container, marked “Abnormal”; he tried to obscure that fact, calling it “Abby” – “Abby Normal?”

I guess I’m like “Abby” too : “Abby Normal”! 🙂

When things behave differently when I am used to [in a working Linux installation tuned with custom keyboard shortcuts], it is frustrating.
I admit I can let myself be brought down to swearing a lot when using the alternate operating system by Bill Gates for a prolonged period with UI updates “streamlining to a more intuitive” quite often adding more clicks to achieve the same task. 🙁
Hence I can understand the POV of a long-term Windows user.

Yeah, Mel Brooks wrote several of the good spoof comedies; Gene Wilder was very good in a few of them.
I believe that Gene and Gilda Radner were together in at least one of them, and I believe they were married at one time.
Also Richard Pryer and Gene Wilder made quite a team; I’m not positive, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Mel Brooks created all of these movies!

Back on topic, that’s probably a good idea. There will be additional antiX images, but until antiX 25 reaches either Release Candidate or final release, I’d stay away from daily use except to test.

I’m a glutton for punishment though; I broke the “init-diversity” antiX 25 Alpha 1 test image pretty badly, but one of the init alternatives, dinit, actually still works, so I created my OWN custom release; it’s not supportable at this point and it has it’s quirks, but I’ve built my own custom Trixie dinit setup that’s good enough to use with Web Browsing; that’s all I use it for; I’m using it now, so for hackers like me, it’s OK; I still wouldn’t DISTRIBUTE my hack; it works one day and then the next I run into issues. I minimized a few of them by going back to solid antiX kernels that are very reliable and have been updated and patched to near perfection so that’s how I got it working – changed test repositories to Trixie, installed stable kernels, replaced a few utilities that weren’t working correctly myself and I have a volatile but working system. I wouldn’t recommend it for the average individual; it’s still way too volatile and subject to change and breakage; I’m HOPING that it’ll get more solid; if so, I’ll make an ISO Snapshot of it so that I can bring it back after we test more Beta and Release Candidate images.

Anyway, my antiX 23.2 Full Runit setup is without a doubt my most solid configuration out of all of my many images that I have, some installed, some on external media.

All right, ‘Alt+SysRq+r’ unlocks virtual terminals, TTYs, though lower resolution makes even those not very usable.
Hence I’ve rebooted back to Devuan and mounted the root partition to explore some logs in ‘/var/log/’ (‘dmesg’, ‘kern.log’ and ‘XOrg.0.log’) but found nothing I would identify as the cause.
Being inexperienced, I might have missed something.
I checked for errors (shortened to ‘(EE)’ in the ‘XOrg.0.log’) and grepped keyboard (case insensitive).

I (and not only I) would welcome any suggestion, e.g. what to look for, that may help me to make the upgraded antiX work again as before.
I can also post the logs as well.

PS: If this continuation of the original thread is considered hijacking, I kindly ask a moderator to split the topic accordingly (though I believe it may be somewhat difficult to select the “cut”).
