I used to use conky long time ago… Not any more. I like clean desktop without any distraction…

I decided to come back to this one again. Thanks to @PPC, who often adds very helpful tools and optional add ons to various things, probably sometime around when this conversation opened, @PPC updated his personal Conky tweaks and shared them with us. I don’t recall if his are the “classic” original style Conky setup or the more “modern one” that MX Linux uses, but his stuff was pretty cool, so I took his work, kept what I wanted, modified what I didn’t, and changed the content and the color scheme to suit my own personal preferences.
I now run that Conky every day on my antiX implementations – and I have it on AT LEAST three of my computers (not 100% positive if I got my custom Conky on all of them) but yes, Conky has minimal overhead and it can be used to put just a little, or quite a bit of information on a screen, it can be easily turned on or off, so after my personal changes, mine is not intrusive, so it’s always on.
The MX Conky that I use is one of theirs; I picked a different one than the one they ship with (I think) but I have that one always on; it’s also a pretty unintrusive thing, easy to spot, but equally easy to ignore, so the bottom line is that I find Conky VERY useful.

Where can I get Grup Yorum antiX 23? I thought only Arditi del Popolo antiX is available with antiX 23. Or did you change how it reads on the screen during boot? I like Arditi del Popolo movement too, but I have a great sentiment to Grup Yorum, though. Great performers with spirit hard to find in the West nowadays…

I don’t use conky anymore. Used it to display keybindings, previously, but I replaced conky with my keybind application. Also, I configured icons on my status bar where I can mouse hover to obtain details on cpu, ram, disk, network, etc. Outside of network, I only enable the other items as needed.
I generally remove unnecessary clutter and distractions. I find conky to be distracting but everyone is different.
Knowledge speaks, but wisdom listens.

If I recollect correctly, the testing version installs of antiX 23 have read still Grup Yorum in the boot screen. So Brian has simply installed his 23 during the testing phase.

Yes, I believe that is correct. As noted, one of the posts dates quite a few months back, and I’ve moved on with several things.
1) I’ve long had the released version of antiX 23.1 Full Runit installed
2) When the test instance of antiX 23.2 WAS available, I grabbed it and I’ve been running it (long after that instance disappears, and some day when another release, whether 23.2, 24 or some other number becomes available, I will probably obtain it too unless some life circumstance takes me elsewhere, but the way I/ update software I’ll already have something that is practically equivalent except for the release name, number, and latest graphical appearance.
3) the Conky stuff that I now use in antiX is NOT the standard Conky in most of my instances, it is my own customized work that combines what antiX did, what PPC did, and what *I* did myself. To draw another analogy, if you look at @christophe’s recent screenshot, he has a very nice Conky that’s also unique; he displays his across the top edge of the screen. Mine doesn’t look like anyone else’s either, but it is based on the technology that comes with Conky; I simply edited my own .conkyrc file.
Does that clear things up or add to the confusion?
I use standard stuff and simply customize appearance and add or remove elements so it does things in my own unique way. Right along with the entire idea of free software and “choice”.

BTW my instance of your aXd still works and it’s something I use or
check. Most weeks I use it at least for a while at least five
days; some weeks every day.--

While I don’t run every single respin that comes out, I try to look at the ones that you and @calciumsodium create and try out anything that is likely to run on my hardware. I’ve not been disappointed in any of the works. While the two of you aren’t the only ones, I’ve already seen multiple useful projects from each of you.
The Lenovo IdeaPad and the HP-14 are where I have aXd. I have @calciumsodium “Privacy” on my HP-14 and I have a few builds from each of you on Flash Drives as well.
As far as the Conky I have running, on the system I’m writing from right now, my Conky displays the time in large print offset from the top right corner, followed by the date, a short weather text from the Greenville Downtown Airport, and a small HD (SSD), RAM, CPU, SWAP, and wlan display. I keep the resource display pretty small because at times it’s pretty active and if I made it large it would be too distracting; it’s just large enough to reference if necessary at a quick glance.

I like Conky since I run from live-usb persistence, and depending upon what version of it I’m running (Persist All, or Static Root or whatever), it reminds me of which persistence environment I’m currently in.
OT: For CLI use, and to sometimes get a second opinion of what Conky is reporting, I’ll use HTOP. If one goes into htop’s setup, (F2) you can also add things to the display such as cpu freq, temperatures (if supported by hardware) etc in the display section. Instead of using F10 to quit after making changes (which brings up the window menu, I just hit “Q” instead to make it sticky).

Do you use a Conky?
When I started using antiX, I didn’t use Conky because it was written entirely in English. I even asked here on the forum how to disable Conky when starting antiX 19.2.
When I learned how to translate the “.conkyrc” file with PPC (I distribute the translated file for “pt_BR” on my Internet Archive page), Conky went from being “useless” to completely “useful.” What’s more, I no longer know how to use antiX without being able to check the information available in Conky. Considering that desktops with JWM and FluxBox don’t have the system monitors that IceWM has, Conky is essential for desktops with JWM and FluxBox.

Quando iniciei no antiX, eu não utilizava o Conky, porque estava todo escrito em idioma inglês, e inclusive, perguntei aqui no fórum como desativar o Conky na inicialização do antiX 19.2.
Quando aprendi o com PPC como traduzir o arquivo “.conkyrc” (eu distribuo o arquivo traduzido para o idioma “pt_BR” na minha página do Internet Arqchive), o Conky deixou de ser “inĂştil” para ser algo totalmente “Ăştil”. E digo mais, eu já nĂŁo sei utilizar o antiX sem poder conferir as informações que estĂŁo disponĂveis no Conky. Haja vista que, as áreas de trabalho que possuem o JWM e o FluxBox nĂŁo tem os monitores do sistema que tem no IceWM. Por tanto, o Conky Ă© essencial para as áreas de trabalho que possuem o JWM e o FluxBox.
