Just for comparison you might want to compare this Gnome based antiX to XFCE antiX or LXQT antiX, both made recently by anticapitalista to be completely systemd/elogind-free, in the spirit of antiX.
I have used both these and at least in LXQT antiX memory footprint and performance is excellent. I expect Gnome will prove more heavy and may prove more difficult to make systemd/elogind-free, in comparison.

You might want to try NetworkManager, whether it will solve this issue for you. I have seen in this forum a post or two to this effect.

I do not have network connection issues and both Connman and NetworkManager work fine for me. Currenly using Connman but I have both installed and switching from time to time for testing.

I’ve been using antiX since v19. A friend of mine suggested MX, and that led me to antiX, where I got hooked.

Before antiX, I tried many different OS’s, including Debian, Ubuntu, MX, Mint, and maybe some others I’ve forgotten. The one thing all those had in common was that after a fairly short time, they started malfunctioning – especially, the internet connectivity. When I sought help in their forums, I always got the impression they viewed me as a beggar, with them being the gracious font of wisdom. Frequently, quite snooty.

Yes, antiX requires a small amount of extra effort setting up, and usually requires seeking assistance to get it functioning properly – but, once set up, it’s RELIABLE. Better than any other OS I’ve ever tried.

I’m not a computer nerd. I’m a Sociatrist, and that’s complicated enough for me. To me, the computer is a tool, not a project – and I like it to stay that way for as long as possible. Once it’s set up, antiX is exactly that. It’s a tool I can rely on indefinitely, without malfunctions. And it’s got way more functionality than I can even begin to make use of.

I’ve been pretty happy with the overall behavior of people who participate in our forums, especially recently. We’ve even been able to have some active discussions on some fairly controversial topics and yet keep a very sensible attitude throughout, which I consider to be an improvement over some things that, while rare, have taken place in the past, so I want to thank everyone for that level of communication.

As for our Colonel Panic and this topic, it’s easy to see how far many of us have traveled over the past few years; this has been quite the journey!

As we enter into the Summer Season and the weather in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres (except in polar extremes where ice never or rarely melts), it’s a nice time of year for the continent I live in; hope everyone is okay; it does appear that some locales in European regions are exceptionally warm right now; hopefully that will be okay too.

that is a thing of the past.

Ice caps are melting and sea levels rising fast. Temperatures last days have been extreme in many parts of Europe.
Death rate is high, both in young and older persons. often heart failure due temperature overload.
Ambulances and hospitals extremely busy.

antiX on the other hand is working fine 🙂
As has already been noted, one of (maybe) 2 or three distros that are consistent and stable even after years of daily usage.

i did try a couple of more recent offerings, they were really fast in comparison, not in performance but in rate of deletion.

This may make me sound like a “climate change denier,” which I am not, but the methods used to reconstruct global historical temperature variation, such as the sources of that XKCD comic, naturally end up applying a smoothing to the underlying data because there are lags and even see-saws between regions.

If you look at the actual isotope data for any particular region, there often are indeed rapid warming events on an order of magnitude similar to what we’ve seen and even predict by the end of the cenutury. In fact, some regions like the North Atlantic have seen frequent and extremely rapid warming in the past, like 5-10°C in under 100 years, which is even more than most current models predict for the end of this century in that region. Other areas, like the Antarctic, are much more stable and may even cool when other areas warm.

Anthropogenic climate change is real and may ultimately end up being unprecedented in its scale, but so far and in the near future, it’s not. My own opinion is that the real effect we should be worried about is the interaction of climate change with human society and in that case it’s certainly unprecedented because we have obviously never seen any climate shift like this at a time when human population is so large, mobile, inter-dependent, and fragile.

To me, the bottom line is the importance of moving away from use of carbon dioxide producing “energy” sources as quickly as possible, in order to NOT making global warming any worse than it will be because of natural effects.

I’ll chime in here.

I originally stumbled across it when somebody approached me with a really old laptop someone had given them. The laptop was from South America (I think either Colombia or
Venezuela), and had something of a quirky layout. It was running Windows but it was really slow. So I did some research right then and there (they had a small office near
where I live) for lightweight Linux distros, and came across antiX. At the time I could only use a CD to make the installation, but luckily they had a ton of blank
CDs lying around, as one of the nuns (it was a local convent) was a huge video-recorder aficionado. So I burned antiX onto a disk, and installed it on the laptop, overriding
the old Windows install.

I noted some improvement in performance at the time, though the effect wasn’t dramatic. I suppose the person was more or less content with the result (but they may have preferred Windows in the end.)

When perusing it at the convent, I ended up liking how it was laid out, and so grabbed a copy for myself. At home, I remember using a YouTube GUI client (I forget the name now), and thinking it was really cool. I remember listening to a song by the White Stripes and reflecting on how nice a simple life could be.

I also remember doing a double take on the distro’s title: “Killah P”. Such a jivey title for a Linux distro, no? Not to mention the colorful CLI output at the beginning, which I’ll admit drew me in somewhat. Dolphin Oracle’s videos were (and are) also very informative and systematically laid out, presenting a concrete, user-friendly presence one could gravitate towards.

antiX on the whole definitely hits a sweet spot between something like Arch which has a cool factor but is very high maintenance, and something which is otherwise too geared towards rank beginners (for example, Ubuntu.) Also, I take heavy advantage of the Live USB features: recently I used such a Live install to progressively migrate my old antiX to the newest version (26).
