In search of tutorials for i3 & bspwm & herbstluftwm

Hello all.

I am in search of some good tutorials for

• herbstluftwm
• bspwm
• i3

I am not a fan of video tutorials… I like to read mine because I’m a slow, tactile, learner. 😉

Check on ArcoLinux for i3. They have a git thing where you can see what packages are installed in what sequence, and the arch based scripts to do it. It might help with a checklist and ideas for automating it…

i3 is the equivalent of gnome/kde (bloat) of window managers …

I used to be a big fan about 5 years ago.

I’m downloading awesome as I write… i3 was a disappointment for me. Bspwm is still a mystery, although I think sway might be interesting because of its Wayland use/ link.

Gotta say that bspwm is impressing me. The setup was not really obvious but it was nowhere near as obtuse as i3. Probably it’s just my small brain. 😉 Herbstluftwm is disappointing (to me) their wiki is dead empty. It would be better deleted… I think. I tried xmonad… my VBox machine was not happy with it at all.

btw. I have a nicely ‘appointed’ version of bspwm idling at under 175MB of RAM. (Sounds like a real estate advert, doesn’t it???)
