Hi,
I’m a beginner and this is my first post.
I am trying to install antiX 26 64 bit as a VB. It tells me that my system is 32bit. The other 5 VBs are 64bit!
How do I fix this?grindstone
Try some other initial settings when you make the VB. Try generic Debian 64-bit or you could try the Trixie 64-bit if it’s available in your rev of VB. Otherwise, delete that (presumably brand-new) VB instance and start over just to see. OTOH, make sure your image is indeed 64- and not 32-bit…keep us posted.

I tried again just now. Install stuck at 93% for over 1 hour. Confirmed that I downloaded 64bit version. I await further instructions.

There lives a thread here in forum about how to resolve this known issue. It has been discussed dozens of times meanwhile, please look it up and read yourself.

If you can’t find it with antiX forum search tools, try an internet search with something like

Why? Just update the system in your live session:
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get upgradeOr, if that exceeds your RAM, update merely the installer, before running it, like anticapitalista had suggested somewhere in the link I gave you:

I sudo apt-get updated/upgraded. That worked.
I have been on Linux for 8 years and never once have I experienced problems with installation until now.
Not a good look for newcomers.

Dear @dorky, I bet you’d be also tired of answering the same question again and again like a parrot. That is nothing specifically qualifying for ol’boys’ clubs. We highly encourage newcomers, but we won’t pamper them like i-Dötzchen: that’s beneath their dignity. Thus, a hint that this is a resolved known issue which has been discussed several times in this place, should suffice for further users’-self-efficacy. Be assured, if you’d have had a real question, not something to which the answer literally springs on you when searching the forum already, you’d have got a fully qualified individual answer immediately. Please understand, antiX is a small team, we can either pamper users like you, too lazy to use the forum search, which is what I also had to do for looking up the link I’ve posted bite-sized for you above, or we can spend the available spare time into preparing the next update and improving things in the OS. With eight years of Linux experience you should meanwhile know how to search a forum, don’t you also think so? Don’t misread me: If you’d have said initially e.g. “have searched the forum already but couldn’t find an answer”, or “have trouble writing and understanding English language, so I don’t know what terms to search for”, or “tried the solution from thread xy, but ran into a problem with it”, this e.g. would have been reasons to spend the time on helping you out immediately.

I haven’t been on antiX long myself, but even I have seen this “stuck @ 93%” complaint over and over. Lucky Robin has as much patience as knowledge to help you. Yes, antiX is a little more demanding of its users than Linux Mint etc. But the (unpaid) developers here have done such a great job of giving us a modern linux that can be run on old legacy pcs. I have a 2002 Gateway with a Pentium 4, 32 bit, 2 GB of Ram and it worked perfectly out of the gate. Yes, I got stuck at 93% too the first time, but I guess I’m what you would call a genius, because I found the answer here without bothering anyone. Don’t feel bad that you got some raised eyebrows or pursed lips here either. I’ve been slapped down for spelling antiX wrong! 😉
antiX 26 Stephen Kapos 5.10.240-antiX.1-486-smp on a Pentium IV @ 2 Ghz and 2 GB of RAM. 2002 Gateway desktop. 140 GB hdd has "/" and 100 GB partition on 2nd drive has "/Home" using IceWM de. Dual booting with Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on another partition.
