retro nostalgia of AntiX

Hello,

I am a longtime AntiX enthusiast

I bought a new i3 laptop that was on sale for $400 and want to put on the oldest version of antiX that will work.

Most likely to accomplish this you would need to contact one of the early leads of AntiX aas only they would know what in AntiX would not work on new hardware.

Perhaps they could copy in new binaries if needed to make an old distro work and it might lead to an interesting retro version of AntiX – please bring up this point with them and let them know there will be alot of iunterest in the AntuX and linux community for this. Only a few distros can do a retro version and let them know this as well – maybe only 4 can.

Do tell them that I want a completely unchanged version with no updates applied – if an update is required I will do it myself with some guidance.

You can get even older versions here:

I’m pretty sure you will find that all the versions there, back to the original release from 2007 based on MEPIS 6.5, still work okay on modern systems. You could even install older, pre-antix versions of SimplyMepis.

The main hitch will be kernel support for newer hardware components, so with the shipped kernels you’ll end up with basic VESA graphics modes, probably no audio, and possibly no support for an i2c touchpad, and so on. I think you might actually be able to drop in a newer kernel and it would just work, though I’ve never tried that myself with anything so old.

The source code needs to come from antiX, if it comes from anyone then anyone could change the code maliciously.

Is it possible for the development team to create a script that anyone can run which will make a bootable persistent usb with encryption on everything and the user can just change the /dev/sda for their usb?

(including all the sudo apt installs – ie a complete script run from the appropriate live AntiX usb – including the dd to burn the usb).
there should be 2 scripts, 1 for AntiX for desktops/laptops and 1 for raspberry pi 5’s if possible – daily driver versions.
