Thanks for the curl script line Brian,

@linuxdaddy – one of the reasons I don’t often share output from curl is that by default it provides that long format.
On one hand it is handy for looking at forecasts over a few days.
On the other hand those forecasts do not look good, nor do they share well over forum software, particularly our
forum software.

By using the ?format=3 you can obtain ONLY the current temperature.
ansiweather is pretty good with offering a few different ways to display,
but I’m not very impressed with their accuracy.

For me, Wunderground is, and has been for a long time, the most accurate weather service;
though the majority of stations, except for the official NOAA and NWS weather servers are
personally installed, managed and operated by individuals, the weather server hardware
makers and Wunderground both do a good job to educate people, and most of the time the
services are reasonably accurate; there are enough weather servers nearby that if one
isn’t working there are almost always others nearby; it’s surprising how true this is;
I’ve used them in New Hampshire, Michigan, and South Carolina and they’ve worked well.

In a pinch I can copy information from a Website display; I resort to that for the
best accuracy.

Yeah, I use Wunderground in Firefox to show some local weather stations. This one is just across town here
and is a private one that updates frequently. I usually only post inxi output to the forum as most
of the time the forum software scrabbles the output of commands like curl.

Fountain Hills, AZ is ALREADY showing 100°F today; Pecos, TX shows 89°F at the Midland International Air and Space Port Station.

Another site, the Plymouth State University Weather center in Plymouth, NH shows Pecos, TX at 96°F, which is similar to our current weather.
Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport reports 102°F from the PSU weather center!
Some locations in Georgia are reporting as warm as 95°F.
Florida also has a few communities reporting 95°F temperatures.
BLYTHE AIRPORT (California) reports 104°F temperatures.

If you want to use this script to obtain a quick report, “format=3” happens to provide the name of the location (city or zip code can be used; I believe an airport code or region is also valid). This particular method retrieves something short, quick, and simple as opposed to the much more voluminous report usually provided.

For instance,
