MemberHi there, few months ago I noticed that distrosea uses a different logo for antiX,
I kinda liked it so I played around with it in Inkscape
and got an idea that it would be cool to have a simple splash screen, since MX always has the cool fancy ones.
I never played around with vector animation, but recently i found Friction and found it very cool,
so I gave it a try and made a very simple one:
If I had a bit more experience, I would actually try to make one where the X “grows” from the ground as the ball falls and rebounds.I mean, I have no clue how I would even implement it but a fun thought,
feel free to let me know what you guys think!December 20, 2025 at 11:31 am #192093Baboon

CharlesVMemberLOVE this idea. I did MX21 & MX23 plymouth animations with Freja’s images, helped on MX25 as well. And have made a bunch of them on my own. If the antiX dev’s are interested in this I would love to help with it.
And certainly can work up something for your use. I have only started working with antiX, so still feeling the ropes, but I can twist and bend MX just about any direction at this time ;-).
*Linux - This is the way!

Charles, I don’t know what the preferences are and the priority is definitely getting the release ready and complete. Unless we slip the release date, maybe the idea can be added in as a package or possibly by the next update, but if you can work some magic on our team perhaps it can happen sooner.
I forget which area, but @anticapitalista asked for some assistance. Despite your roles in MX Linux, is there a possibility of adding to our development team for a while, assuming that would be useful and actually needed. I don’t think I should speak for the team so all of this would have to be discussed and decided,

MemberThis looks really nice! I appreciate the creative work you’ve put into this concept.
From a practical standpoint, I think adding a splash screen could be a good addition to antiX, as long as it doesn’t negatively impact boot time or performance on older hardware. Since antiX is specifically designed to be lightweight and run well on legacy systems, maintaining that core principle should be the top priority.
That said, if the splash screen can be:
- Optional (users can enable/disable it)
- Minimal in terms of resource usage
- Quick to render without adding noticeable delay
then it could add a nice visual touch without compromising the distro’s performance-focused philosophy.
@Baboon – your animation concept looks clean and professional. The idea of the X “growing” as the ball bounces is creative!
@CharlesV – given your experience with MX plymouth animations, your assistance would likely be valuable here. Having someone familiar with both the technical implementation and antiX’s performance requirements could help ensure this gets done right.
Looking forward to seeing how this develops, and thanks to everyone working on the release!
Let's accept antiX as it is

sybokMemberIMHO, the less animation, the better.
I suggest opt-in only, possibly an additional package to install to include/enable this.I recall that I had troubles getting to grub menu on an old/legacy still working Lenovo notebook.
The issue was because animation (no longer displayed correctly) was involved and it did silently time out.Personally, I feel there already is an abundance of visual clutter when using modern web and programs.
These (loading web or starting programs) often start with or often include animation (more resource use, including electricity, more CO2 emissions… not very eco-friendly).Since these are personal opinions, feel free to disagree.

My personal tendency is to agree with you, though the ideas are appealing, so the idea of an opt-in approach is good; that way the features are available but not mandatory. I will say that MX Linux in any form is about as efficient as you’re going to get WITH a desktop environment and additional features. It’s definitely not as lean as antiX, but when comparing it to other distributions with desktop environments, it comes out very favorably, just like the original MEPIS – that was based on the early implementations of KDE, and there was no other distribution that ran KDE as effectively as MEPIS; same with MX Linux; the Xfce and KDE Plasma implementations are nice and clean. Given the history and the implementations, I believe it’s worth doing, but I also agree that it ought to be an optional feature for those who are interested in it and have the necessary equipment to utilize it well.

Damn, it makes me so happy that you’re interested! I use MX since 23 and both the latest and the previous animations are by my opinion unmatched by other distros, very sleek and satisfying.
Thank you so much for making them!By the moderator’s replies, it seems there might be a possibility of making it possible on antiX!!
Of course, nothing is certain, but I am nonetheless excited to see where it goes and what you might come up with! -
