      Yeah, it makes a REAL difference!

      Yet, notice that even 4,586 X 16 = 73,376; my “bogomips” rating on this system is 86244, so even this doesn’t “DRIVE” the CPU to report the maximum rate with eight dual processors in this monstrosity! I LOVE this system, and I managed to get it by WAITING a while until I could get the price of a Thinkpad T14 UNDER $500 US. Great system! But what I especially like about it is the keyboard; I have an old Thinkpad X201 and it too has a great keyboard, but this one has a slightly shallower keystroke but still a solid feel to it, so when you take the speed, the keyboard and the overall quality, this is the one I waited a couple of years to get the price down to something I can afford, yet upgrade from that IdeaPad; the IdeaPad has outstanding price/performance, but being an entry level laptop, it’s lousy compared to any Thinkpad model because the Thinkpad is the business laptop of choice. Since “computing” WAS my business, I was used to using mid to high range Dell, HP, and Lenovo laptops on the job. One of the financial services companies I worked for, Fidelity Investments, was privately held, they made huge sums of money and they wanted ALL of their equipment to have top performance so their engineers and analysts could provide excellent service and charge significant fees for those services; it was also the place where I earned the highest salary in my career.

      My last job was still decent BUT the pay amount was almost $12-15/hour less, so Fidelity was a great place in many ways; they expected a lot, but they paid well to get it; a fair trade, even to support the billionaires that created the family owned business! So that’s the reason I have “expensive” tastes in laptops; I just have to get them used and refurbished to get them in an affordable range for this retired person!

            Yes!

            In fact I did just that less than a week ago on my HP-14.

              I see techore’ bogomips 211 Thousand.
              I melt and think, well we won’t talk about bogomips again.

              rokytnji turned in a 7200 bogomips.

                    I see @techore’ bogomips 211 Thousand.
                    I melt and think, well we won’t talk about bogomips again.

                    @rokytnji turned in a 7200 bogomips.

                    my response to yesteryear: antiX.
                    perfection is ageless, fluxbox.

                    The system that @techore has is a brand new Gaming system;
                    the fact that it’s a 2024 model is one factor, gaming systems
                    usually DO have powerful CPU and graphics subsystems; they
                    also cost decent $$$.

                    I don’t know what a Gen6 Thinkpad would be like, but it’s
                    probably in the same vicinity, power wise; those are quite
                    expensive; the top end current year models go for over $3000 US;
                    I won’t want or need one of those until they’re 5-6 years old;
                    maybe then I’ll need another one, but by then the current gen
                    systems may either have a completely new design or who knows
                    what, and may produce 1,000,000 or more bogomips; there are
                    probably many super duper server systems that do that routinely;

                    Financial services companies that want to keep their stuff
                    constantly running might spend several million dollars on
                    redundant copies of key enterprise servers; the cost of downtime
                    can exceed the cost of a few of these high availability servers
                    with mirrored (equivalent) backup servers, so this makes even
                    gaming laptops seem like pocket change.

                        Looking at logging activity in my main instance of runit; not much activity, so I think I have it reasonably well optimized; the only logs I keep active are those that will help in the event of crucial system functions, such as the boot log and the dmesg log; most others are either very minimal or disabled completely; works for me!

                          How are your systems working now @rokytnji? All problems solved?

                          As far as I can tell mine are all set, and if there’s anything else to work on, it certainly isn’t preventing the primary daily activity.

                              I was chatting on Slack with my single friend Tim, knowing that he has a whole collection of Lenovo Thinkpad systems. When I mentioned the above, he knows them much better than I do and actually wrote back about the above! I only know this stuff by looking back at the report.

                              Anyway, he’s so excited about faster processors that he went out and got an HP because Lenovo’s 7th gen hot box can’t be purchased here yet, probably because of Chinese tariffs! The one I got was used/refurbished and came from California.

                                Took awhile to straighten out this installation. Also took me awhile to use updater only in sysvinit bootup.
                                On my sda partition I have sid XFCE init-diversity spin.

                                On my upgrade on it . It error coded 1 in sysvinit boot. Going next to CalciumSodium thread to let him know.
                                Used apt upgrade instead of apt dist-upgrade and it still errored out.
                                Not too surprising with all the changes pulled in.

                                Sometimes I drive a crooked road to get my mind straight.
                                I don't suffer from insanity. I enjoy every minute of it.
                                Motorcycle racing is rocket science.
