On the whole though, I’d take antiX 23.2 Full Runit over anything I’ve ever used; it’s the best and remains the best.

I have tuned antiX 26 aggressively but memory footprint still does not come very close to the one you got (201M) on antiX 23.
      Congrats.

I’ve been able to get antiX 26 down to 237 MB a few times; I can frequently get antiX 23.2 under 220 MB. It isn’t automatic to get the memory usage that low, but every time I remove daemon processes and tools that I never use, it helps. It’s important to know what I am doing, otherwise removing things unless I understand what they do is a risk.

        Indeed…
Part of the reason I am not able to get below 250M footprint is that I have this xfce4-power-manager running, which takes around 80M. This one is kind of must for me to provide power functionality on variety of laptops…

Nice dinit result with low memory footprint…

Yeah, dinit and runit are pretty close in their footprint. I took out a few standard things that I don’t use with either of them, for instance (and I have mentioned this before), I remove several tty entries, leaving only two, and I also get rid of cups when it allows because I don’t use printing. I think I also got rid of ssl; again, I generally don’t use it any more, whereas all of these were things that I DID use back when I was an active developer. I know how to bring them back, and in the event bringing them back fails, I have a backup – the original Flash drive containing the distribution, so I have the option to reinstall if I mess things up badly or I can go back to an earlier snapshot; I have a couple of those too; anyway these are some personal hacks to my system that I make to make it more efficient for my current limited use cases, another reason why I use antiX – I just don’t need the stuff in a full desktop setup, but I do have a few of them too (just in case) 🙂

antiX 23.2 Full Runit – I’ve cut this one down too; it’s REALLY efficient compared to ANYTHING else I can get running on my Lenovo Thinkpad T14 Gen 3 laptop:

Hey @anticapitalx! Nice to see your “super lean” antiX 26 setup. @olsztyn thought that I was able to cut things down; considering my system, I did what I could. In your case you were able to shave even more off your extra lean system; great work!

I knocked a few things off my s6-rc setup today, but this one uses a bit more memory than most of the other init alternatives; still, I have it humming with fewer resources than any other common distro; less than Puppy, for instance. Anyway, here’s what I have going this morning:

Hey @anticapitalx! Nice to see your “super lean” antiX 26 setup. @olsztyn thought that I was able to cut things down; considering my system, I did what I could. In your case you were able to shave even more off your extra lean system; great work!

                                  thank you.
the antiX live-remaster , antiX iso-snapshot , and live-usb-maker , gives you the opportunity to safely experiment almost anything.
if something goes wrong , you always have the rollback option.
                                  antiX is outstanding.

Let's accept antiX as it is
Pure and Elegant by its nature
