For those that have older intel chips in their computers, like mine, perhaps add the boot code:
xorg=intel
would help to get the boot to finish to desktop.
I also need this boot code in order to see my desktop.
after installing your respin , I used iso-snapshot to create an iso for redistribution .also added xorg=intel to boot parameters in iso-snapshot respected menus.
by using this new iso , I have two users by the default: root and demo .
logging into root works fine .
but after logging into demo , system goes into a deep freeze .
even alt+ctrl+f1 to f12 doesn’t seem to work , and I have to press and hold power button , to turn off system .
installing the iso does not resolve this .
@calciumsodium can you guess what causes this behavior?I tried to describe the issue as good as I can .
can you reproduce this situation?
or by any chance can you publish the next respin of yours in distribution mode?I had also this problem with previously published respins by you .

I changed most of the repos back to Bookworm; copied my repo configuration from the Privacy Edition in fact! 😉
😁Well me. I just bit the bullet and did a full-upgrade in in sid on r6 boot.
Payed attention to what was was being removed and saw in my small knowledge set. Nothing stood out to me.
After being done I installed Firefox Browser. Not the -Esr version. Also synaptic.
No apt-xapian-index in sid I guess.
I will learn as I go.
Like everything.Rebooted OK.
So no worries.Sometimes I drive a crooked road to get my mind straight.

How to Search for AntiX solutions to your problems

@calciumsodium did MOST of the work. He marked several key packages with a hold, so I could either update gobs of Sid packages or use mostly stable packages.
Usually when you mix packages from multiple different repositories, you’re right; if not very careful you can create a horrible mess!
In this case I had nothing to worry about.
Why? I have MANY different antiX distributions available and plenty of working USB Flash Drives.So while I don’t suggest wildly mixing repositories, sometimes you CAN switch.
Here’s another good example: a couple of years ago we moved from Bullseye to Bookworm. I believe that was between antiX 22 and 23; in any case it was between releases. At the time, @anticapitalista told us how to get to the next version – remove a couple of packages which had replacements, then change repo names from bullseye to bookworm, then upgrade the system.
When our next release approaches, we can switch from bookworm to trixie; right now testing/unstable are Trixie; the new packages are ‘unstable’/Sid and the ones that survive without a lot of defects go to testing, where they remain until code freeze and final release testing. When ALL of that is done, Trixie will be there as the next stable release in Debian repositories.
I hope that helps you, though it takes quite a while sometimes to get really good at this stuff.

I’ve updated Sid systems with over 1000 package modifications in a single upgrade.
That happens when the release comes out and everything is on hold until the release is finalized but then all the packages with updates are released and it’s a huge change, practically everything changes.

I’m BACK on this one, after using the new init-diversity provided by @ProwlerGr.
Both have their positives; each of them have a few minor quirks, but they serve as good places to look at various init alternatives, and this particular one ALSO allows us to look at a recent system kernel, which has a configuration based on antiX (and possibly Xanmod) kernels) – Cana can describe the particulars – in any case this fairly new kernel works well, and the nosystemd implementation of Xfce is very good; I’ve already stated it’s considerably leaner than the implementation found in MX Linux, which is NOT systemD free.Anyway, I like this one well enough that it’s INSTALLED on my Lenovo IdeaPad:

I’m still on it. I am not trying to install any other inits on this one; just using what’s there and “held”. That way I’ve been able to put many of the usual tools I use here and use it as a light desktop environment. In that context it’s working well for me.
