Well, it’s a bit more complicated.

Case #1: Last time (before Shutdown) booted the full installation of the legacy kernel and now trying to boot a frugal_static installation of the modern kernel.
As I wrote in my #185081 post (corrected by #185693 post), the persistence files are broken but fixable by the “Set Up Live Persistence” tool.

Case #2: Last time (before Shutdown) booted the full installation of the modern kernel and now trying to boot a frugal_static installation of the legacy or modern kernel.
After booting without persistence, the “Set Up Live Persistence” tool shows this message:

antiX Create or Resize Persistence
Read-only device found
The boot/persist device /dev/sd** is read-only
Please select a new device for the persistence file.

Case #3: Last time (before Shutdown) booted the full installation of the legacy kernel and now trying to boot a frugal_static installation of the legacy kernel. No problem.
