While I won’t say that 25.a1 is my personal “daily driver”, I have not hesitated to use it for forum browsing and Webmail reading; it works fine that way for me too. I also multi-boot, so if anything were to fail for any reason, the way I operate I have multiple computers and multiple system images; no single point of failure, even a drive or system failure takes me out 100%; only a site network issue does that; Hurricane Helene proved that last Fall; our entire region had anywhere from a couple days to a week or more to get routine services back. Where I live that meant that we congregated in common areas much more often and spent REAL person to person time; it was very good, so though the natural disaster was significant, the interpersonal interaction was a real eye opener; so many of us got to know one another better!

Sorry, 25.a1 can’t do THAT, but it does work as well or better than anyone else’s Alpha 1; the only Alpha 1 images that have done better than this one are some of OUR OWN past Alpha efforts! Still, very good; looking forward to the next build as we advance closer to the final work. I’m also happy at the extent of our participation and I look forward to EVEN MORE people trying out the next test image; the more people we have testing the builds, the better chance we have to significantly minimize the number of remaining defects when we advance to Beta test, release candidates or whatever we need to make it to antiX 25 release.

I’ll probably keep testing antiX 24 alphas/betas Live (as I usually do, I’m an early tester but a late adopter, this desktop PC still has antiX 22 on it!!).

As reported, by Robin (I think) several icons are missing:
In IceWM Manager 3 icons are missing: “show/hide clock”, “center new window” and “hide/show position when moving windows”…

I briefly checked out antiX Control Center and I noticed no other missing icons, but I’ll have to try to check in more detail.

From what I see, this alpha keeps works great. I’m not really sure if this is the way Live antiX works on this particular Dell desktop PC, but it suspends/resumes from suspension lightening fast, in the latest kernel (the only one I tested so far).

So far, no other problems, other than what I reported before. Suggestions will probably be just saying the same thing that I already mentioned here and in previous treads. The single most important thing, for many users: update the android app to the newest version (and if it’s not already done, sorry, I’ve been away for a while, put it up for localization).
The add-desktop GUI, as previously stated, only seems to work correctly in English (as you can see on a thread I created about it, my proposed solution is not perfect and may imply losing some functionality…)
I’ll have to dig around… right before my life went into a spin of changes, I think I wrote a possible change to connman’s GUI source that would solve the nasty but/missconfiguration that hides the “OK” button, off the window, when configuring Wi-Fi – that’s probably the biggest usability problem newbie users face when adopting antiX…

Edit: oh… yes, using Robin’s excellent screen capture app by default in antiX Full would probably be nice… But, as always, I defer to anticapitalista’s choices.

Has anyone else noticed the strange behavior of Mirage, which does not display thumbnails of other images in the same folder in its left-hand column?
The option is enabled and I noticed that it only displayed the thumbnails again when I disabled and enabled this option.

A opção está ativada e percebi que só exibiu novamente as miniaturas quando desativei e ativei esta opção.

Thanks, but it was not me alone, this 2nd generation of the antiX screenshot tool was rewritten, improved and designed by @BobC and me together.

Windows is like a submarine. Open a window and serious problems will start.

My testing of pipewire on & off shows no difference. Sound works both ways on both kernels.

ISO snapshot completed just fine. But I have not made the image into a live USB yet.

Remaster GUI would not run at first (showed an error msg), so I remastered from command line successfully. That was on legacy kernel, if it matters.

The remaster GUI did work under both kernels, on subsequent reboots.

I enabled persistence on the modern kernel, and it worked perfectly. But the legacy kernel could not use the persistence file. (I don’t know if this is expected behavior, since I mostly use the base edition, with only one kernel.)

Other than the expected apt issues, everything else (so far) works very well.

antiX on everything, since 2017

I tried antiX 25 a1 on my crappy netbook, using the modern kernel – it worked great, but I had to toggle pipewire off and then back on to have sound. No unusual CPU or RAM usage… but for some reason, when I tested youtube, it was far sluggish than it was using antiX 23 – so some video problem, maybe? (EDIT: or I may be misremembering how well video played on that device, in antix-viewer)

If a user uses the “IceWM Toolbar Icon Manager” program and accidentally removes the “Unplug Removable Device” and “skippy-xd” icons, he will not be able to add them again because the “unplugdrive.desktop” and “skippy-xd.desktop” files do not exist.

In the video, I only explained why it is not recommended to remove “Unplug Removable Device” and “skippy-xd”, which are called in Brazilian Portuguese “Remover o dispositivo USB” and “Alternar Entre as Janelas Abertas”.

The question that was raised is relevant and I believe it would be important to create the files “unplugdrive.desktop” and “skippy-xd.desktop”, keeping the option “NoDisplay=True” to not display them in the menus as is done in “search-antix.desktop” and in other “.desktop” files.

Another issue is that we have several programs in the Control Center that cannot be found in AppSelect, because these programs do not have their “.desktop” files. My suggestion is to create the “.desktop” files that do not exist in order to increase the functionality of AppSelect.

If a user does not know where the program is in the Control Center and searches for it in AppSelect, they will certainly find it just by searching for a term related to the name or functionality of the respective program.

It seems to be OK via Firefox, but Youtube video player crashes.
Running the modern kernel (6.6) live, on a stick and without persistence.

Playing in Browser works but unblockable ad infested. Player crashing.
Only reliable player I have found
FreeTube.
All players get blocked or broken intentionaly by yt api changes, ads are
bringing more revenue for google so that will not change.

I just ran four YouTube videos directly from a Firefox Browser and it worked fine.
Just for completeness I’ll try a few other browsers running YouTube videos;
works great on my Thinkpad T14.

Tried running videos from Librewolf and Ungoogled Chromium.
For me all three browsers work fine with both audio and video
coming through clearly.

As I mentioned yesterday, I thought I’d tested this before
and now I remember: audio and video work fine with no special
provisions necessary. Running these again reminded me of my
previous finding – that video playback with the new Alpha images
work better than ever.

Sorry that not everyone is experiencing success with older hardware.

Blew away my install but youtube videos worked OK on my 64 bit install and yt-dpl worked Ok on some videos and music downloads.

Using ffmpeg to change video format worked also.
