antiX-25.a1-full for testers

While on one hand it works, on the other hand, the linux-image-6.6.87-antix.1-amd64-smp runs hotter than the linux-image-6.14.10-1-liquorix-amd64. This is understandable from the fact that the newer kernel is closer to the age of the current system.

At idle, ACPI temperatures are similar between the two, but when starting the browser, the right edge toolbar gauge showing CPU statistics turns partially red when simply starting the default antiX 25.a1-full Web Browser, whereas this behavior is not seen.

I’ll repeat the test again, but I noticed this in initial tests on my Thinkpad T14; I did not see this with either the 5 series or 6 series kernel on my Dell Inspiron 5558, but then again it has a stronger and noisier fan, which gets pretty active when a modest load begins.

This is not a crisis, but for me, it makes sense to use a newer kernel once the system is configured.

Thanks for reporting this test result. It is significant.
I think I noticed a similar result in the past testing but it was with 6.12 liquorix.

Here’s the antiX 25.1-a1-full init-diversity using runit right after boot and an apt update/upgrade, something that raises the temperature of some components. You’ll see that it’s not dangerous, but on the very same hardware with the 6.6.87 kernel it is indeed warmer; it’ll cool down soon and I’ll capture that too.

I DID think of one other variable: I have a custom .conkyrc (adapted from one that @PPC created); I wonder if it’s “slightly quieter” than the default one; could that account for the 1-2°C difference or at least part of it. I’ll pull in the SAME Conky and see if that makes a difference.

I haven’t seen an immediate difference and I now have the same .conkyrc in use as in my usual setup; I’ll give it a few minutes; so far no difference between init-diversity and runit versions of antiX-25.1-full-runit for testers, EXCEPT that the “init-diversity” version, with more services enabled, is MUCH more active at startup time; lots of logs and services are enabled.

It came down 0.1 degree lower, so there’s a very tiny difference, but not 1-2 degrees.

Verified “Setting up Persistence Device”.
Initial setup is using removable USB device on /dev/sda1
Created 3.00 Gib swapfile
Removed 5.10 kernel in this instance.
Set Persistence option persist_all.

Modified a few things, including adding in my scripts, .bashrc, ~/bin
directory, configured geany, micro, kak, xnc, xnedit, and lev (levee);
verified that these are included when I reboot, again using persist_all.

In addition, to further verify that adding “recognizable programs” show up in the menu,
I installed a couple of my “relatively unknown apps” that DO have .deb packages; these
did not show up, but that’s nothing new.

I installed several others that DO show up, and they showed up after I refreshed the
menu. These include Featherpad, Helix (hx), micro, Jed, and Jupp. So I’d say the
menu addition tool works about the same as before, at least in the Accessories category.

I’ve now run both with and without persistence on a stick.
In my tests I’ve successfully completed persist-all.
I noticed that static root persistence has also been tested.

I have not seen any styles of Frugal testing.
If I don’t see some soon I’ll change this setup to at least one or
two Frugal modes.

Any Frugal testers here?
