Brian MasinickModeratorFor sysVinit, I believe I have to go into /etc/inittab to get the tty resources; I’ll check it out. Yup; that’s right. For those of you who don’t need a lot of ttys and you use sysVinit, if you use roxterm you can just use multiple tabs instead of a bunch of different tty entries. One or two suffice just fine. Six or seven is overkill, at least for me on a one person system.

Brian MasinickModeratorMemory usage is greater than expected here; I’ll have to examine which services I can remove or disable; don’t need this much going on in this ultra stable configuration with sysVinit.

Brian MasinickModeratorHi @Wallon, I notice that you are using the 6.19.8+deb13-amd64 kernel. Is that because you need a newer kernel in order to run on your hardware?
I happen to like the Liquorix kernel myself. I have it on a few of my systems, though my current Lenovo Thinkpad T14 Gen 3 is pretty tolerant; I can even use a V6.1 or V6.6 kernel because it’s not a cutting edge system, it’s my “retiree special”: the best that I can afford; looking at their site Lenovo now has Gen 6 units in Intel and AMD64 CPU configurations; the Thinkpad T series is actually their business model line, the X1 “Carbon Gen” is apparently their ultra light weight premium line. This newer stuff, while I could probably get one if I were absolutely fixed on it, such purchases limit and stretch the retiree bank accounts, particularly mine, so while I like what I see in the top end models from Lenovo and Dell, I won’t have these, or if I do, it’ll be an end of model or refurbished unit to bring the price into “reason” for a sensible type, who doesn’t need a “millionaire model” of anything.
Have you ever explored alternative kernels from either Liquorix or Xanmod? Both usually track fairly closely with the latest releases from kernel.org, typically offering them within a day or two at the latest each time a kernel update appears. In all the years I’ve used Liquorix kernels I’ve only found a bad one once, and it was probably just an issue with a module I needed on a particular system, and within 24-48 hours it was perfectly fixed; for the length of time I’ve been using this stuff and realizing that even the BEST make mistakes once a decade or two, that’s pretty good. vmlinuz-6.19.12-1-liquorix-amd64 happens to be the latest Liquorix image – I have that one loaded on my most up to date MX Linux installation; I’ve been using our native antiX kernels on my antiX 26 images for now, 1, because they work and 2, because I’ve continued to test our kernels, init alternatives and application configurations.
Any additional thoughts or comments?
